TGG Market Forecast 8/29: Tomatoes, Pears & One Last Taste of August

Saturday, August 29, 2026
August really did the most. Between the storms, garden drama, packed schedules and a record five market Saturdays, it has been a full month—but in a good way.
This week’s beautiful weather has been a very welcome change. Cool mornings, sunshine and lower humidity? If we could order this on repeat, that would be great.
Now we’re heading into the final market day of August with plenty of tomatoes, pears, peppers, fresh herbs, flowers and one last Homegrown Wellness Month check-in.
A Special Week at TGG

We also welcomed Grace Hewitt and Living Dayton to The Grazing Ground this week! Grace toured the market, sampled some of our preserves and joined Lisa for a little goat yoga while I “tried” to participate too. 😂
We had so much fun sharing another look at what happens here, and we’ll share the finished segment as soon as it’s ready.
Now that the cameras are gone and the market is back in order, we’re getting ready to welcome all of you Saturday!
This Week’s Forecast
Tomato-heavy, pear-filled and pepper-packed, with scattered herbs and a strong chance of flowers.
Here’s what we know will be waiting for you Saturday:
Fresh TGG pears
A colorful mix of garden tomatoes
Roma and Comstock sauce tomatoes
New Chocolate Miracle tomatoes
Bell peppers
Hot banana peppers
Build-your-own mini herb bouquets
Fresh floral bouquets from Runway Flowers
We’ll also have plenty of small-batch preserves, TGG seasonings, luffa soaps, simmer pot kits and other farm-made finds inside the market.
A Little Something from the TGG Bakery
I know I teased a new bakery preorder system last week, but I’m giving myself a little more time to get everything set up the way I want it. It’s still coming—just not quite yet!
For Saturday, I’m keeping things simple with two gluten-free TGG favorites:
Gluten-Free Salted Chocolate Chip Cookies — $4
Two chocolate-packed cookies made with our little secret ingredient—molasses—for an extra-rich flavor and chewy texture. They’re finished with a sprinkle of salt for that sweet-and-salty gourmet touch.
Gluten-Free Salted Caramel Pear Butter Bread — $6
A moist, warmly spiced bread made with our own Salted Caramel Pear Butter.
TGG Bakery Bundle — $9
One package of Salted Chocolate Chip Cookies and one Salted Caramel Pear Butter Bread.
Quantities will be limited and available inside the market while supplies last—so if you have your eye on that bundle, you may want to arrive early!
🍅 Fresh from the Garden - Tomatoes—and Plenty of Peppers

You wait all summer for tomatoes, and then suddenly they all decide to ripen at the same time.
Along with our colorful smaller varieties, the sauce tomatoes are finally coming in! We’ll have both Romas and Comstocks, which are meatier tomatoes with fewer seeds and plenty of flavor—perfect for homemade sauce, salsa, roasting or freezing for later.
We also have a brand-new variety making its market debut: Chocolate Miracle tomatoes.
Despite the name, they don’t taste like a candy bar. 😂 These tomatoes have thin, dark chocolate-purple skin, a velvety texture and a rich, smoky, slightly tangy tomato flavor. They’re beautiful sliced with a little salt and basil, added to a sandwich or used anywhere you really want the tomato flavor to stand out.
The peppers are still going strong too! We’ll have plenty of bell peppers and hot banana peppers for salads, sandwiches, pizza, pickling, cooking or tossing into a batch of fresh salsa.
And because apparently the garden season wasn’t quite chaotic enough, I planted a late round of zucchini. If the weather continues to cooperate, we may get a little zucchini encore before the growing season is over. No promises yet, but they’re popping up!
From the TGG Kitchen: Fresh Tomato, Pear & Basil Salsa
Yes, I said pear. Stay with me.
This fresh salsa is sweet, savory and just a little unexpected—and it uses several things we have plenty of right now.
You’ll Need:
2 cups chopped tomatoes
1 ripe but firm pear, diced small
¼ cup finely chopped red onion
1 hot banana pepper or jalapeño, finely chopped
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
Juice from ½ lime
A pinch of salt
A tiny drizzle of honey if your tomatoes are extra tart
Make It:
Combine everything in a bowl and let it rest for about 15 minutes so the flavors can come together.
Serve it with tortilla chips, spoon it over grilled chicken or pork, or pile it onto cream cheese or goat cheese with crackers.
This one is best eaten fresh and kept refrigerated—it is not a canning recipe!
Preserve Season Is About to Get Busy

Speaking of canning..., my preserve-making list is getting longer by the day:
Apple Butter
Pear Jam
Apple Pie Jam
Tomato Jam
Raspberry Jam
And yes, I think we finally have enough raspberries to make actual jam instead of one tiny handful that gets eaten on the walk back to the house. 😂
They won’t all be ready at once, but I’ll keep you posted as each new batch makes its way into the market.
🌿 Wrapping up Homegrown Wellness Month
August may be ending, but I hope the idea behind Homegrown Wellness Month sticks around.
Wellness doesn’t have to mean a perfect routine or another major goal added to your list. Sometimes it looks like fresh food, time outside, laughing with friends, visiting the goats or taking a little Saturday trip somewhere new.
This month has been a good reminder that the simple things count—even when the garden is overgrown and life feels slightly chaotic.
Planning a Fall Gathering?

As we head into fall, our calendar is already starting to fill with private gatherings, small celebrations and group experiences.
If you’ve been thinking about a birthday party, girls’ afternoon, team gathering or another fall get-together, now is the time to start planning.
The market can seat up to 25 people inside, with room to expand outdoors, and your gathering can be customized with goats, crafts, food or other TGG add-ons.
Send us a message and let’s create something that fits your group!
One Quick Schedule Note
After a very full August, we’re taking Labor Day weekend OFF, which means there will be no TGG Market on Saturday, September 5.
We’ll be back on Saturday, September 12, refreshed and ready with all the garden goodies the season gives us!
See You Saturday!
If you need tomatoes, pears, peppers or a little TGG market fix before our weekend off, Saturday is your chance!
