TGG Market Forecast 8/15: Rain, Tomatoes and Rolling With It

Saturday, August 15, 2026

If there’s one word for this week at The Grazing Ground, it’s probably WET.

Rain. Storms. More rain. A few pretty intense rounds of weather. And somewhere in between all of that, I’ve been sneaking into the garden long enough to stake tomato plants before the next round rolls in.

So no, this has not exactly been one of those peaceful weeks spent wandering through the garden with a harvest basket. 😂

Thankfully, everyone here is safe, the garden is still standing, and things are still growing whether I’ve had time to fuss over them or not.

And honestly, that feels pretty fitting for Homegrown Wellness Month.

Sometimes wellness looks like fresh herbs, homegrown food and taking care of yourself.

And sometimes it looks like realizing you can only do what you can do.

Especially during back-to-school season, when schedules are changing, calendars are filling up and everybody seems to be running in six directions at once.

This week’s reminder: You don’t have to do everything for the day to still count as productive.

This Week’s Forecast

Chance of rain: Apparently always.

Chance of me running outside between storms to stake another tomato plant: Extremely high.

Garden outlook: Surprisingly promising.

The storms have kept me from spending much time out there this week, but I’ve spotted a few things starting to happen.

The bell peppers are looking close, and the paste tomatoes are FINALLY starting to turn red, which means tomato season may be getting ready to kick into another gear.

We’re also hoping to have a couple of our Taste of TGG Garden Baskets available Saturday, depending on what the garden decides to give us.

And the Build Your Own Mini Herb Bouquet Bar will definitely be back!

Pick your favorites from the garden and build your own fragrant little bundle to take home for cooking, drinks, drying, tea or just making your kitchen smell ridiculously good.

🍐 From the TGG Kitchen

The pear situation around here has officially reached WE HAVE A LOT OF PEARS status.

So naturally, they’re making their way into this week’s baking.

We’ll have:

🍐 Pear Lemon Basil Bread

Fresh pears paired with lemon and homegrown lemon basil for a bright, summery loaf.

🍓 Strawberry Jam Oat Bars

Made with our own TGG strawberry jam tucked between layers of buttery oat crumble.

Both are gluten-free and fit right into our Homegrown Wellness theme: simple ingredients, things grown here when we can, and treats that still very much taste like treats.

🍐 From the Pear Tree: Easy Cinnamon Pear Breakfast Bake

Since pears are abundant right now, here’s an easy way to use a few that also works for breakfast, snack or dessert.

Cinnamon Pear Oat Bake

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe pears, diced

  • 2 cups gluten-free rolled oats

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 3/4 cups milk of choice

  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, optional

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F and lightly grease an 8x8 baking dish.

  2. Spread the diced pears across the bottom.

  3. Mix oats, cinnamon, baking powder and salt and sprinkle over the pears.

  4. Whisk together eggs, milk, maple syrup and vanilla.

  5. Pour over the oat mixture and gently press everything down so the oats are mostly covered.

  6. Top with nuts if using.

  7. Bake for about 35–40 minutes, until set and lightly golden.

Serve it warm, refrigerate it for easy breakfasts during the week, or add a spoonful of yogurt on top.

Back-to-school breakfast problem: at least temporarily solved. ✔️

Tomato Sampler Baskets

For the tomato-curious, we’ll also have a limited number of Tomato Sampler Baskets featuring a mix of our smaller varieties, including Spoon, Atomic Grape, White Currant and, hopefully, a few Sunrise Bumblebee tomatoes.

They’re a fun way to taste the differences between each variety without committing to a full basket of one kind.

Tiny tomatoes, surprisingly big personalities. 🍅

See You Saturday!

After this week, I’m crossing my fingers for a calmer Saturday, a few more red tomatoes and at least several consecutive hours where nothing falls from the sky.

Come see what the garden managed to produce through the storms, build yourself a mini herb bouquet, grab some eggs, pick up a pear treat and spend a little time slowing down with us.

TGG Market is open Saturday from 10 AM–1 PM. 💚

Because maybe that’s the best kind of homegrown wellness this week: good food, fresh air, and rolling with whatever the forecast throws at you.

When you arrive, drive past the house and find us across from the barn. (6280 Brantford Rd, Dayton, OH 45414)
