TGG Market Forecast 8/8: Tiny Tomatoes, Heirloom Beans & a Farmhouse Favorite

Saturday, August 8, 2026

The garden is finally starting to give us a little more to work with!

This week’s harvest includes some fun tomato varieties, cucamelons, tomatillos, peppers, basil and heirloom beans, which means the Taste of TGG Garden Baskets will be back again Saturday.

We are also bringing back the Farmhouse Brownie and adding a brand-new Zucchini Pear Bread, because apparently Homegrown Wellness Month can include chocolate and quick bread. I make the rules here.

This Week’s Forecast

Saturday’s forecast is looking fresh, colorful and slightly unpredictable, which is pretty standard around here.

Expect another round of Taste of TGG Garden Baskets, the return of the Build Your Own Herb Bouquet Bar, a familiar farmhouse favorite and one brand-new baked good featuring ingredients grown right here at TGG.

There is also a strong chance of tiny tomatoes, unusually long beans and at least one vegetable making people ask, “What is that?”

Taste of TGG Garden Baskets

Last week's Taste of TGG Garden Basket

Each basket will be a little snapshot of what is growing right here at The Grazing Ground this week. Exact contents may vary because the garden remains firmly in charge, but we are planning to include:

  • Spoon tomatoes

  • Atomic Grape tomatoes

  • White Currant tomatoes

  • Cucamelons

  • Tomatillos

  • Banana peppers

  • Bell Peppers

  • Fresh basil

  • Thai Soldier Long beans

  • Iroquois Skunk pole beans

The spoon and white currant tomatoes are tiny, the Atomic Grapes look like someone painted them for fun, and the heirloom beans are long, colorful and impossible to overlook.

These baskets are made in very limited quantities based on what is ready to harvest, so once they are gone, the garden pantry is closed until next week.

Garden Basket Recipe: Fresh Tomatillo, Tomato & Cucamelon Salsa

This easy salsa uses several ingredients that may be included in this week’s Taste of TGG Garden Baskets.

Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 tomatillos, husks removed and rinsed

  • A handful of Spoon, White Currant or Atomic Grape tomatoes

  • 5 to 8 cucamelons

  • 1 banana pepper

  • A small handful of fresh basil

  • 1 tablespoon lime or lemon juice

  • Salt to taste

  • Optional: onion, garlic, jalapeño or a drizzle of honey

Directions

Finely chop the tomatillos, tomatoes, cucamelons, banana pepper and basil. Stir everything together with the citrus juice and a pinch of salt.

Let it sit for about 15 minutes so the flavors can get acquainted.

Serve it with tortilla chips, spoon it over grilled chicken or fish, add it to tacos or pile it onto toasted bread with goat cheese.

For a smoother salsa, pulse everything briefly in a food processor. For deeper flavor, roast the tomatillos and banana pepper first.

Tomato Sampler Baskets

For the tomato-curious, we’ll also have a limited number of Tomato Sampler Baskets featuring a mix of our smaller varieties, including Spoon, Atomic Grape, White Currant and, hopefully, a few Sunrise Bumblebee tomatoes.

They’re a fun way to taste the differences between each variety without committing to a full basket of one kind.

Tiny tomatoes, surprisingly big personalities. 🍅

From the TGG Kitchen

The Farmhouse Brownie is coming back this weekend!

These rich chocolate brownies are made with black beans, but before anyone panics, they still taste like dessert. The beans add a soft, fudgy texture and a little extra goodness without turning the brownie into something that tastes suspiciously responsible.

We are also introducing a brand-new Zucchini Pear Bread, made with zucchini and pears from our trees.

It is the kind of baked good that lets you eat cake-adjacent food while technically discussing fruits and vegetables.

That counts as balance, right?

National Farmers Market Week

Saturday also happens to wrap up National Farmers Market Week, which feels like pretty perfect timing for a market filled with food grown, baked and made right here at TGG.

Small markets may not have endless quantities or perfectly predictable harvests, but they do give you the chance to know where your food came from, try varieties you probably won’t find at the grocery store and directly support the people growing and making it.

We’re grateful every time you choose to spend part of your Saturday with us, especially when the garden is being weird.

See You Saturday!

Come visit us Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for Taste of TGG Garden Baskets, Tomato Sampler Baskets, build-your-own herb bouquets, eggs, preserves, baked goods and whatever else the week decides to send our way.

As always, quantities are limited because this is a small garden with big ambitions and absolutely no respect for production schedules.

When you arrive, drive past the house and find us across from the barn. (6280 Brantford Rd, Dayton, OH 45414)
